Recalls is something that every automaker dreads and prays that they never have to deal with. Unfortunately for GM and Toyota it is time for them to face the music. Together they are both recalling over 662,000 cars that have been sold in the U.S. because of the defective power windows.

Toyota will be recalling 539,500 of the 2003-2004 Matrix and Corolla. GM will be recalling 122,598 of the Pontiac Vibe hatchbacks –which were built jointly with Toyota and share the same platform as the Matrix.

Both automakers have stated that the glass bolts of the power windows of the passengers and driver side will loosen and can cause the door glass to separate itself from the window regulator. Toyota went on to say that those who have manual windows do not need to participate in the recall.

Toyota will be sending out letters to the owners later this month telling them of the problem and asking them to bring it to their local Toyota dealer for free inspections and repairs.
