2008 Geneva Auto Show: Pininfarina Reveals Sintesi Concept

Geneva was riddled with many different types of cars (many of which we have already shown) – but out of all of them there were some that stood out more than others. These concept cars were not just intriguing to look at – but were also unique in their own personal ways. The one concept that stood out the most to us was Pininfarina’s Sintesi.

Pininfarina has joined together with the French Bolloré Group – one of the major battery producers – to build a plug-in fuel-cell hybrid car called the Sintesi. They are hoping to have the vehicle completed and ready to be distributed by 2010 in the U.S., Japan, and Europe.

The Sintesi concept has very smooth and rounded off edges giving it the appeal and perfect Italian design and look of a true sports car. The look of the car gives you the impression that it can only seat two and that it would have no back seat. However, we have it on good authority that the car can seat up to four people comfortably and has been built with four doors.

The body of the car has been designed and built around the mechanicals so as to allow the drivetrain to be shaped around the passengers. This specific design is called ‘liquid packaging’ and will free the car from any of the usual shapes and will also help to lower the center of gravity and to improve upon the weight distribution.

Pininfarina has stated that the Sintesi has the ability to have a top speed of 80 mph and can accelerate in 4.8 seconds to 31 mph. In the city the car can drive around 150 miles with only having to recharge completely for five hours. This means that if you need to drive only 15 miles you will only have to recharge for five minutes.
