BMW To Expand Spartanburg, SC Plant

BMW has announced that they will be expanding on its only U.S. assembly plant that is located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The plant has been increasing the production amount causing the capacity to run past the usual amount. The capacity amount is for 140,000 cars per year. However, BMW is happy to see that workers turned out 154,999 in 2007.
They will build the plant out 70,000 square feet – which will cost them $27 million. BMW isn’t too worried about the cost when it comes to the money that they have increased and are looking to expand on even more.
The plant in Spartanburg is working on the X5 SAV, Z4 Roadster and M Coupes, and the X6 SAV. In 2010 all of the X3 SAV production will be brought to the U.S. and all of the Z4 Roadsters will be brought over to Germany.
