Nissan Murano Wins IIHS Top Safety Pick Award

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has once again performed the necessary tests on nine new CUV’s and SUV’s. We all know the drill. They perform a series of tests on the front, side, and rear impact testing of the car. Each one will try to prove its worth – but only one will be granted the title of Top Safety Pick award.
The Mitsubishi Endeavor and Mazda CX-9 and CX-7 may look like great cars – but they received poor ratings on the marginal rear crash test. The Hummer H3 was the only car that was not given a good rating for the frontal offset test and the Jeep Liberty and Wrangler Unlimited and Kia Sorento managed to just barely scrap a good grade on the side impact test.
The second generation Nissan Murano was the winner of the day and received the award this time around by getting satisfactory ratings in all of the crash tests and also for having electronic stability control. The IIHS performs these tests in order to keep auto manufacturers on their toes and to make them create better and safer vehicles. They admit that some of the cars that they testes did not perform to the best of their abilities.
