With the increase in gas prices it should be no surprise to us that consumers are switching over to smaller more gas efficient vehicles before they burn too big of holes in their wallets.

The Chevrolet HHR is feeling the love and was happy to see an increase in sales as they jumped up 73% over last month. Happy with this news they decided that the 2008 Chicago Auto Show was the perfect time to boast and celebrate about the new features they would be adding on for the 2009 model year.

The 2.2 liter four-cylinder engine will be given variable valve timing – something that has already been installed onto the 2.4 liter engine. But the good news doesn’t stop there. Both of these engines will be able to run on ethanol making the HHR the first American GM model to utilize a four-cylinder flex-fuel engine. Watch out Saabs it looks like competition is headed your way.
