Mercedes To Buy Out McLaren?
We heard through the grapevine that Mercedes is planning on buying out McLaren – which makes for an interesting move on their part. When Mercedes was asked to elaborate on this we got the answer we expected – nothing. They said no comment to every question that had to deal with this subject – which makes us wonder if it is true and they are trying to keep things hush-hush.
Mercedes’ Daimler branch already owns 40% of the team. The 60% that is left is currently owned by Ron Dennis and Mansour Ojjeh and the Bahraini holding company Mumtalakat. In order for Mercedes to take over they would have to make a deal for each of the three remaining shareholders. They could also focus on making a deal with one of the shareholders – which would leave them to control about 55%. This would than allow them to buy out the remaining shareholders.
We are going to keep doing some digging and we hope to have some defined answer as to whether or not Mercedes is going to go through with this. According to more rumors the deal is already in the works and may have already been accepted – but nothing has been confirmed yet.
