Mercedes Adds A Pair Of AMG SL Roadsters To Lineup
Ahead of the ‘official’ launch, the team at Mercedes has only given us a teaser photo of the SL65 (see above) - typical behavior to build some momentum going into a new model launch. With that being said, however, we’ve got the scoop on a bit more information (or speculation) on Benz’s flagship roadsters.
We get a rear 3/4 shot of the massaged SL, perhaps to hide an expected heavily redesigned front end. What’s clearly changed is the addition of a lip spoiler revised taillights and a new diffuser with quad exhausts. It appears as though 19″ five-spoke wheels will be pounding the pavement.
We did say “pounding” didn’t we? Yea, well that’s what happens when AMG shoe-horns a twin-turbocharged 6.0 liter V12 belching out (err, that sounded kind of American didn’t it?) a whopping 612 horsepower. It’s little brother, the SL63, gets a larger displacement Affalterbach engineered 6.3-liter V8 making a more modest 525 horsepower. Since when is 500 horsepower modest? Both models are shifted by AMG’s SpeedShift MCT 7-speed transmission.
No pricing information has been released, though we can speculate the AMG SL65 will be somewhere in the $180,000 range like last year’s model. More info, and pics, will surely be released soon so stay tuned.
